Our Governors' Visions and Values

Governors create a vision for the school which drives the leadership ethos. This is updated every three years. Our current Governor Vision is:

  1. To provide broader opportunities for children to develop wider experiences they may not have access to in their life. We aim to do this by ensuring each phase group has access to a broader opportunity. EYFS & KS1 have weekly access to a well- developed Forest School provision, Years 3&4 have access to weekly swimming lessons and Years 5 & 6 have access to musical instrument lesson delivered by a trained professional.
  2. To enhance the vocabulary of children in school in order to close the learning gap that this creates. We aim to do this through accessing quality opportunities such as trips, and links with external visitors into school. An example of this is working with the Welsh National Opera to create a school opera.
  3. To engage with parents in order to enhance the educational experience of children, particularly those opportunities provided to parents with poor English and those who have not yet started school. We aim to do this by sourcing workshops for parents and hosting them at school. An example of this is providing basic English classes for parents.

What do our Governors do?

Our governors are a vital part of our school and have three main functions: ensuring our school has a clear ethos and values, hold staff to account for all of their actions and ensure that money is being spent for the children's benefit and the school is financially responsible.

In our school, we have committee and statutory governors. Both of these types of governors meet regularly to ensure the school is meeting all required standards as well as promoting school life including the curriculum and financial aspects of our school. A full governing body meeting takes place at least once a term.

Statutory meetings are held when: The headteacher has a performance management due, pay rises and reviews are discussed, staff or pupil disciplines is required or complaints have been received for any reason.

Governors do not get paid an allowance whilst being a governor of Wollescote Primary school.
